Doechii – Anxiety

Doechii’s “Anxiety” has a surprisingly winding path to official release. Originally created in 2020 during lockdown as part of her Coven Music Session, the track existed solely on YouTube until now.

Built around a prominent sample of Gotye’s 2011 hit “Somebody That I Used To Know,” the track pairs this unexpected backdrop with Doechii’s observations about persistent unease. “Anxiety / Keep on trying me / I feel it quietly / Tryna silence me,” she declares in the chorus—a sentiment that resonates with themes explored in her Grammy-winning mixtape “Alligator Bites Never Heal.”

The track’s circuitous journey through the music industry makes this release particularly interesting. In 2023, Brooklyn drill rapper Sleepy Hallow released his version called “ANXIETY” on his album “Boy Meets World,” which sampled Doechii’s original unreleased track (with her providing only the chorus). That version hit streaming platforms and created confusion when it began appearing in Doechii’s top tracks on services like Spotify and Apple Music.

The recent official release comes after unexpected viral traction on TikTok in February 2025. Doechii, ever attuned to her fans (or as she refers to them, “the Swamp”), responded by finally making her original version available on streaming platforms on March 4.

For clarity, she even took to TikTok to explain the situation, encouraging fans to stream “Anxiety (Doechii’s Version)” to distinguish it from Sleepy Hallow’s take.
